For brands, manufacturers and AI companies

The source of truth for physical design.

Urform connects the brands that own original design with the AI companies that build on it: one register of originals, verification and licensing built for scale, and expert data on form and fabrication.

From furniture to every manufactured productImages, 3D and CADBuilt in the EU

Every AI company that designs physical things will need rights-cleared originals. Every design brand will need to be on record. Urform is where both meet.

Why now

Training data must be accounted for.

Since August 2025, the EU AI Act requires providers of general-purpose AI models to have a policy for complying with EU copyright law and to publish a sufficiently detailed summary of the content used for training.

Regulation (EU) 2024/1689, Art. 53

Design law now reaches files.

Since May 2025, EU design protection also covers digital designs, and the holder of a registered EU design can act against creating, downloading or sharing files that enable a protected product to be made, for example by 3D printing.

Regulation (EU) 2024/2822

A copy is no longer just a picture.

Image, 3D and robotics models increasingly produce objects that can be manufactured.

Membership

Your catalog, on record. Whether you license or not.

Your catalog is exactly the kind of material AI models learn from. Membership puts it on record at scale, watches generators and marketplaces for close copies and handles licensing for every use you approve. We import your existing product data and build the record; your team approves it.

01

Catalog on record

Every product, designer, right and protection claim in one dated record your legal team can cite, built from the product data you already have.

02

Monitoring at scale

Generators and marketplaces checked for close copies of your collection, with documented evidence for your legal team.

03

Licensing handled

We run licensing with AI companies, from first contact to payout, within rules you set for your catalog. You can decline any use.

04

Revenue and reporting

Licensed use of your designs, data and styles can become recurring revenue, reported regularly to brand, legal and management.

For design brands, manufacturers and groups; designers and estates welcome. Opening in stages, starting with the register. Talk to us

How it works

One register. Value flows both ways.

01

Register

Brands, manufacturers and designers record their originals in the Urform register.

02

Verify

Generated images and 3D models are checked against the register before release.

03

License

AI companies license the originals they build on: data for training, styles for generation.

04

Pay

Each license returns a share of the revenue to the rights holders.

Platform

Build on originals. Licensing handled.

For AI companies: licensed design data, verification against the register and expert judgment on form and fabrication, from one partner. Products roll out in stages, starting with the register and Verify.

01

Bench

Form and fabrication data

Evaluation and training data for physical AI, from robotics to CAD, built with designers, engineers and toolmakers. Does a generated object look right, and can it be manufactured?

02

Data License

Licensed training data

Images, drawings and non-public CAD and fabrication data from manufacturers' archives, licensed with documented provenance for training and fine-tuning.

03

Verify

Copy check for outputs

An API that checks generated images and 3D models against the register, with the original, its rights holder and the licensing options.

04

Style License

Design in a style, with permission

Generate in the recognizable language of a designer or brand, with the consent of the rights holders and a revenue share built in.

One contract, one API, licensing handled by Urform. Talk to us

Verify

Original or copy? Check before it ships.

  1. 1Send a generated image or 3D model through the API.
  2. 2It is compared with every original in the register.
  3. 3You see the closest original, who holds the rights and whether a license is available.

A technical comparison, not legal advice.

Form and fabrication

Looks right. Builds right.

Image, 3D, CAD and robotics models produce objects that look convincing and fail in production: undercuts, walls too thin, no draft, parts that cannot be assembled. Bench turns the judgment of designers, engineers and toolmakers into evaluation and training data, built on licensed originals, so models learn what can actually be manufactured.

  1. 1

Form. Is it well designed, measured against real design history?

  2. 2

Fabrication. Material, process, tooling, tolerances, assembly and cost.

  3. 3

Fix. The smallest change that makes it both right and buildable.

Bench taskIllustrative example
Prompt
Stackable side chair, injection-molded polypropylene
Form
Proportions work. Backrest too upright to sit comfortably; legs need more splay to nest.
Fabrication
  • Undercut at the backrest joint: the part cannot leave the core.
  • Wall thickness 1.2 mm: too thin to fill and too weak for a seat shell. Needs about 3 mm, kept even.
  • No draft on the legs: they drag on ejection.
Smallest fix
Reshape the joint to open along the pull direction, thicken walls to 3 mm, add 2° draft to the legs, recline the backrest by 6° and splay the legs for nesting.
Verdict
Not buildable as generated. Fixable.
Illustrative mold section as generated: undercut at the joint, no draft, 1.2 mm wall
Illustrative mold section after the fix: 2 degree draft, 3 mm wall, no undercut
Illustrative example: section through a two-part injection mold, as generated and with the smallest fix.

Principles

On the side of rights holders.

We work for brands, manufacturers and designers, and give AI companies a clear way to build on their work: license first, not dispute.

Permission first.

Nothing is licensed without the consent of its rights holder.

Judged by people.

Questions of form and fabrication are answered by designers and makers, not by a model.

FAQ

Questions, answered.

Will our designs be used for training if we don't license?

No. What you register is used only to recognize copies. Nothing is used for training or passed on without your explicit consent, and you can leave and have your data removed at any time.

We don't want to license at all. Why join?

Because a documented record and active monitoring matter either way. Your catalog is registered and watched, and Verify is built to flag close matches to AI companies that use it, before release. Licensing stays your decision, and the answer can always be no. Records and monitoring cannot guarantee that nobody copies a design, but they make copies visible and documented. Membership terms are shared on request.

Our designs aren't registered. Does Urform still help?

Yes, often even more. Many furniture and lighting designs can be protected without any registration, for example by copyright or as an unregistered EU design. What is usually missing is evidence of who showed what, and when. Urform keeps a dated, documented record with sources that your legal team can cite. It does not replace registration where you want it.

How is Urform different from a design or trademark register?

Official registers record who owns a design or trademark. Urform covers what they were never built for: the AI world. It links originals to their rights holders, checks AI outputs against them, monitors generators and marketplaces and runs licensing with AI companies. It works alongside your registrations with the EUIPO or national offices, not instead of them.

Do we give up any rights by registering?

No. Registering records what exists and who holds the rights. Your designs are only licensed with your explicit consent, on terms you agree to.

How are rights holders paid?

Every license agreement sets out a share for the rights holders. Urform collects the license fees and pays out that share.

Which objects are covered?

We start with furniture, lighting and objects, from twentieth-century classics to current collections. The register is built for every manufactured product, from consumer goods and tools to toys and vehicle interiors.
